Mas Martinet - La Vinya del Vuit 2016

LOOP LINE TASTING NOTES | Truly a special wine. This is a porject of friends with a vineyard as a bond. It is a very concentrated wine, that is mostly Carignan with some additional heft from Grenache. Winemakers Sara Perez and Rene Barber used native and wild yeasts in fermentation, before aging for 18 months in French and Austrian oak barrels (4th of 6th fill). The winemaking team (Sara Perez, Ester Nin, Nuria Perez, Montse Mateo, Iban Foix, Rene Barbier, Julian Basté and Philippe Thévenon) worked the vineyard organically, with the help of mules. The vinyard is at 350m of elevation with a Southern exposure, and the soils are degrated licorella.

The 2016 vintage was one of the hottest and most dry in recent years. The grapes remained small, ripened slowly and preserved a high level of acidity. Because the yield was small, the wine maintains an excellent quality.
