LOOP LINE TASTING NOTES | Mullineux Old Vines White Swartland 2024 — from Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines — is a white blend built primarily on deeply rooted old‑vine Chenin Blanc, complemented by small portions of Clairette Blanche, Sémillon Gris, Grenache Blanc and Viognier — all from granite, schist and iron‑rich soils in the Swartland region of South Africa. After oxidative whole‑bunch pressing, the grapes undergo native‑yeast fermentation (often with natural malolactic) and the wine spends about 11 months ageing on its lees in used French oak barrels and large foudre — a process that preserves purity while building texture. On the nose expect fresh stone‑fruit and lightly poached pear, with a palate that unfolds layers of yellow grapefruit, nectarine, a hint of ginger or galangal, and a vibrant acidity that carries through a long, dry finish. It’s a striking example of how old‑vine white blends from Swartland can combine richness and finesse — great chilled at 10–12 °C now, but with the concentration and depth to reward a few years of cellar aging.
